In Wrightsville Beach, NC it comes as little surprise how rapidly our seasons change and with them our desire to savor disparate cuisine. A victim of this very conundrum, I found myself scouring our inventory for an approachable, versatile yet elegant red to compliment a hearty dinner, or to serve as an aperitif. After some time I took a dive and discovered Primus The Blend (2011) as it features a mix of my go-to favorite grapes. A Chilean medium bodied red blend of 6 varietals, Primus packs plenty of bursting berry, pepper, earth, and clove in the nose. Featuring soft tannins and a soft, lingering finish Primus is enjoyable on its own or as an accompanying accoutrement to your favorite hearty meal. Aged 12 months on French and American oak, this aromatic blend begs you to drink it now or save for later- clearly I couldn’t wait (and you shouldn’t either!). Pick this one up next time your in the shop and thank me later!
Here’s the breakdown:
Syrah (30%), Carmenere (30%), 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec, 5% Petit Verdot.
